General Background |

IMM is a 38-year old educational institution, registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 as a non-profit entity. The Institute has been classified as a Charitable Institute under Section 10 (23C) (iv) of the Income Tax Act. It has also been recognised as a Scientific Research Body in Social Sciences and donors are entitled to 125% IT exemption u/s 35(1) (iii) and 50% I.T. exemption u/s 80G . It has developed as a top class business school. It is affiliated to the All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India & has been offering PG Diploma in Business Management for the last 12 years. IMM, as the National Marketing Body, is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation (APMF) and the World Marketing Association

It is located in the green and tranquil environs of Qutab Institutional Area and it is housed in its own 7-storey building of 40,000 sq.ft. approx. known as the Marketing Tower. It has state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including computer labs, internet room, wireless internet connectivity in the Campus, a well stocked library, A/V equipment, seminar rooms, executive lounge, conference halls, recreation centre, and halls for hosting lunches and dinners as well as a Business Centre. Its division, the Global Development Centre, is situated at Sujan Singh Park (near Ambassador Hotel). IMM is now on the way to developing a top class, most modern, additional campus as well as a separate Executive Education Centre in the NCR of Delhi, Marketing Tower-II.

The Institute is affiliated to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management & has been offering the same for the last 12 years. For selecting its candidates for the two-year, full time Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Business Management, IMM use Common Admission Test (CAT) & MAT scores. The Institute has a sizeable full-time core faculty in various disciplines. It also has a good reservoir of part-time and guest faculty from within India and overseas.

The Institute also offers specialised services in the fields of Research, Conferences, Executive Development Programmes. Its Research Centre has been conducting feasibility and research studies on behalf of Central, State and Local Self-Governments; public, private and cooperative sectors as well as for international organisations such as WHO, UNICEF, FAO, UNIDO, USAID, ICA, IWS, Peace Corps. It has already served over 100 organisations and successfully completed projects on a range of topics including family planning, women's empowerment, status of civic amenities, and concerning trade and industry.

The Institute is a membership body with members from all sectors and sizes of business organisations and Government Departments in the country. Its members are given attention and facilities like participation in educational programmes, tailor-made training modules, research programmes, conferences and seminars, publications, platform for communication with senior government officials and so on. IMM Centre offers annual and life membership to individuals and organisations to avail of its facilities which are modeled on IIC and IHC.

IMM has been organising an Annual World Marketing Congress on a topical theme. The 33 rd World Marketing Congress was held on “ THE SOUTH ASIAN MARKET : ITS CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES ” during January 20-21, 2006 at The Grand, New Delhi. The 34 th World Marketing Congress on “ ASIAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY: ITS CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES ” held during January 17-18, 2007 at The Grand, New Delhi. Shri P.R.Dasmunsi, Hon'ble Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting & Parliamentary Affairs was the Chief Guest at the Special Session of the 34 th World Marketing Congress on January 17, 2007 at 11:00 A.M and distributed the IMM Awards for Excellence. Dr.Akhilesh Das, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Steel was the Guest of Honour at this Session. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations organised a Cultural Programme for the delegates.

The Institute has been a pioneer in suggesting marketing orientation of the country's industrial policy ; highlighting importance of industrial capacity utilization in the country in a scenario where companies were being penalised for producing more; cost cutting and optimisation; quality improvement ; increasing number of vendors for effective marketing to Government ; farm input-output management leading to introduction of support price which was adopted by the Government of India in its agricultural policies & so on;
The Institute equally represents trade, industry, labour, consumers, professionals and government and has been trying to bring about synergy among them;
The Institute was the first body to start recognising excellence in various areas of marketing and management by way of conferring annual awards . These awards are being conferred on various categories including marketing companies; CEOs; exporters; top diplomats; dealers; SSI units; women entrepreneurs & executives & so on.
The Institute has been the first to recognise the need for emphasising specialised education in areas like Agricultural Marketing, Industrial Marketing, International Marketing, Social Marketing & Services Marketing .
